Rationale:
#1 To enhance the school-wide culture of kindness where everyone belongs and feels safe.
Having achieved the goal of a unified community within two programs (elementary and middle) at Carlin, we believe we now must continue this effort focussing on a sense of belonging and safety.  When children feel safe and have a sense of belonging they are able to learn and achieve to their potential.  
#2 Continue to develop literacy skills with a specific focus on writing conventions.
Across the curriculum and across all grades we see writing conventions as the foundation of all written communication.
#3 To develop reading strategies that increase motivation for reading.
Reading is a critical skill in today's world.  The ability to read well is mostly important not only in schools, but in work environments as well.  Without powerful reading skills, students today will be disadvantaged.  Reading needs to be taught in schools across all curriculum areas.  Home support needs to be strengthened for children to realize that reading is more than a subject to be studied at school.
